Morning: Hradčany and Prague Castle
Start at Prague Castle, ideally shortly after opening. St Vitus Cathedral and Golden Lane are most pleasant when still quiet. Descend the New Castle Stairs into Malá Strana.
IOA Stay · Praha
A realistic itinerary for seeing the main parts of Prague in a single day without criss-crossing the city.

One day in Prague won't cover everything – but with a little planning you can see the historic centre, the castle and at least one viewpoint you'll remember. We ordered the route so you walk in one direction and don't spend the day in transit.

Start at Prague Castle, ideally shortly after opening. St Vitus Cathedral and Golden Lane are most pleasant when still quiet. Descend the New Castle Stairs into Malá Strana.
Malá Strana has plenty of places for lunch. Then cross Charles Bridge to Old Town Square with its astronomical clock. The view from the Old Town Hall tower frames the city perfectly.
If you still have energy, finish at Vyšehrad – calm, green and crowd-free views. Or walk along the Vltava and peek into Kampa.

Hradčany, Praha 1
Prague's symbol and the largest castle complex in the country. St Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane and views across the city. We recommend the morning, before the heaviest crowds.

Staré Město / Malá Strana, Praha 1
The most famous Prague bridge, lined with baroque statues. Best at sunrise or after dark.

Staré Město, Praha 1
The heart of the Old Town with the astronomical clock and Týn Church. The Old Town Hall tower view is worth the ticket.

Mariánské hradby, Praha 1 – Hradčany
A Renaissance garden beneath the castle with the Queen Anne Summer Palace. Open seasonally, pleasantly shaded in summer.

K Brusce 208/5, Praha 6 – Hradčany
A Renaissance gate, once an entrance to the city, now a café and gallery. Most tourists walk past it.
Ready-made routes that show you the city sensibly – without unnecessary back-and-forth.

For first-time visitors.
The historic centre at walking pace: Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Malá Strana and Prague Castle.
Start at Old Town Square in the morning; leave the castle for later morning.

For guests around Prague Castle and Prague 6.
Písecká Gate → Royal Garden → Prague Castle. A beautiful start right from Hradčany.
The garden is open seasonally; in winter walk along Mariánské hradby instead.

For panorama and photography lovers.
Letná, Petřín, Kampa and Vyšehrad. Four places where Prague looks completely different.
Vyšehrad in the evening is calmer than the main sights.

For families with children.
Petřín with the funicular and mirror maze, Stromovka for the afternoon and the National Technical Museum.
You can skip the funicular and walk up from Malá Strana – the path itself is an experience.
The basics – castle, Old Town and Charles Bridge – yes, on a walking route ordered in one direction. For museums and less-known places, add a second day.
The historic centre is walkable. For Vyšehrad or Petřín, metro or tram helps; practical transport details are on the official Prague Public Transit website.
